The research group on Spanish Language and Sign Language (UVIGO GRILES) started to study sign languages ​​in 1995, taking the challenge of overcoming the communication barriers that the deaf community faces. The group's main goal is to deepen the linguistic knowledge of sign languages (SL), particularly of the Spanish one (SSL) in order to contribute to the improvement of the SSL society's status and to the recognition of the SL as the natural language of the deaf community.
